Murry is a Golden Retriever!
The Golden is everybody's friend! They are known for their willingness to work and train with their human companion. The males may weigh up to 75 pounds and the females around 65. They stand about 22 to 25 inches tall with long, wavy hair. The heavy coat needs frequent grooming to prevent mats.
This sporting dog is an extremely active dog that was bred to carry heavy game over long distances. It needs a lot of exercise and challenging mental stimulation - or it will get itself into trouble! It does best when engaged with regular training and retrieving. The heavy coat needs regular grooming.
Goldens have one of the best documented breeding records of any dog! Lord Tweedmouth, a Scots, became interested in a dog that could handle heavy brush and cold water, swim strongly and retrieve gently. He bred a yellow Wavy-Coated Retriever and a Tweed Water Spaniel. The result was 4 puppies. Further judicious breeding resulted in the Golden that we know today.
Goldens need a lot of human companionship to thrive. They love to play and will watch "their human" carefully so that they don't miss any chances! We see a lot of these dogs in the obedience and agility rings! They have hearty appetites and are prone to overweight!
We are pleased to welcome Murry to our practice!
