Corgi Mix

Wedge is a Corgi Mix!

The typical mixed-breed dog weighs around 40-60 pounds at full growth. A lot depends on the size and structure of the ancestors of your particular dog. Mixes of small dogs should result in smaller dogs, and mixes of larger dogs should result in larger offspring. It should be remembered that all "full-bred" dogs were once mixes of other breeds.

The Corgi dates from ancient times in south Wales, and a Welsh cattle dog is mentioned in a book from the 11th century. The original Corgis were known as yard-long dogs and were supposed to measure a Welsh yard long from nose to tail tip. These dogs may have originated from the short-legged English "Turn-spit" dogs that were used to turn spits in English kitchens.

The value of this little dog was to drive the herd during a time when the farmers land holdings were determined by how much land his cattle occupied. The Corgi would nip at the cattle's heels and dodge their kicks while driving them over the land. This agile, tireless breed is fun-loving and high-spirited! They are devoted companions that are well-mannered but may tend to bark when left alone. It needs a surprising amount of exercise for such a small dog - unless we remember it's origins.

They stand between 10' and 12.5' and weigh around 35 pounds with a double coat consisting of a soft, thick undercoat and a hard outer coat that will need weekly brushing. The coat may be in shades of red, blue or black with, or without, tan or white markings.

We are pleased to welcome Wedge to our practice!
