Curly & Moe are Havana Browns!
The legend has it that the Havana Brown came from Siam and were depicted between 1350 and 1767 in a manuscript written in the city of Ayudha, Siam. The self-brown cats were among the first cats to come to England from Siam during the 1800's. It is commonly believed that those brown cats included Burmese, chocolate point Siamese and Havana Browns.
It was in 1952 that the first registered solid brown kitten in England was born. It became the start of a new breed. This kitten came from a cross of a Seal Point Siamese and a black cat; both of which carried the recessive chocolate gene. A few Russian Blues were used in subsequent generations. This new breed was later called Havana Brown, supposedly after a Havana cigar. The first kittens came to America in the 1950's.
This is an intelligent, affectionate, gentle cat. Unlike Siamese cats, they are quiet and agreeable with confidence and poise. They need to interact with humans to be happy and healthy. They frequently touch or nudge their human as if asking for attention.
The Havana Brown will often be seen carrying toys or other stray objects around and taking them back to its' bed. It is very outgoing and follows humans around.
This cat's distinctive, chocolate brown coat will tend toward mahogany or red-brown, not a black-brown. The kittens sometimes have ghostly markings that fade with time. The coat is short and glistening over a lithe, muscular, 8 to 15 pound cat.
The British Havana Brown's body style more closely resembles the Siamese; while the American cat's body is more moderate, with a distinctive muzzle, large ears and large, expressive eyes. The soft, gentle voice belies a lively, curious, playful cat.
We are pleased to welcome Curly & Moe to our practice!
