Hershey is a Birman!
The Birman or "Sacred Cat of Burma" should not be confused with the Burmese, which is a separate, dissimilar breed. One legend holds that the Birman cat originated in Burma as a cat that was kept by the temple priests. This legend started with a book written by a French woman and borrowed heavily from the Siamese cat history. These cats very nearly disappeared during World War II. Only 2 were alive in Europe at the end of the war. The only recorded history of the Birman is that around 1919, a pair of Birman cats were smuggled from Burma to France. The male died, but the female became pregnant before he did.
Birmans have medium-long, silky hair, small ears and a large, semi-cobby body. Their almost round eyes are deep blue and the paws have white gloves. The body should be an eggshell color or golden with seal, chocolate, red, lilac or blue markings. They can also have tabby markings with seal, lilac, blue or chocolate markings. The "gloves" on the paws should be pure white. The fur is not as thick as a Persian's & seldom mats.
This cat has a marvelous personality; sociable, gentle, active and playful. A smart, curious cat that remains quiet and unobtrusive. Their voice is soft and some love to sit beside their owners and purr for hours.
We are pleased to welcome Hershey to our practice!
