Bogie & Sammer are Mi-Kis!
The Mi-Ki is pronounced Me-Key. Its history is clouded with one thought saying that it is from Asia and came to the US during the 1980's, and another view holding that it was a recent breeding by a woman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It shares common ancestors with the Maltese, Japanese Chin, Shih Tzu, Yorkie and the Papillon.
This is a small, very long-lived dog - weighing in under 10 pounds and standing under 11 inches that is ideal for apartment life. Many are trained to use litter boxes, and can be seen sunning themselves on a window sill like a cat. (Make sure that the screen is firmly fastened.) Although they are excellent indoor dogs, they do love to go for walks outdoors & would love to have a small yard.
The long hair needs to be carefully groomed with a wire comb once a week, but bathed only when necessary. The temperament is said to be calm, good natured and affectionate. This is an intelligent dog that doesn’t bark much. Some have a sound like a yodel or twittering. They are excellent at obedience and readily accept strangers
The Mi-Ki can have a smooth or a long coat in dark blue-black or brown. The eyes are usually dark blue or brown. The long coat is fine and silky and the smooth coat lies close to the body and flat.
We are pleased to welcome Bogie & Sammer to our practice!
