Studies have shown that mixed breed dogs tend to be average in size; but it's necessary to keep the size of the parents in mind when evaluating the eventual size of your puppy!
"Mother Nature" tends to breed for sturdiness, intelligence, playfulness, ability to co-exist with other pets and people and longevity, so we can expect Charlie to be healthy and sturdy.
The Shih Tzu originated in China, during the Ming dynasty, where they were bred to be lapdogs for the royal family. They are sometimes called " Chrysanthemum dogs " dogs because of the way the fur on their heads lays like a Chrysanthemum flower. This vivacious little dog loves to play and romp; and it needs daily exercise.
The long coat needs daily brushing, and the puppies should be taught early to enjoy grooming.
The Shih Tzu is also known as "The Lion Dog ", because of its association with Buddhism. It was a favorite house pet during the Ming Dynasty. Their upbeat attitude and love of playing has kept them popular today.
These gentle lapdogs generally weigh less than 15 pounds and stand less than 10 inches tall.
We are pleased to welcome Charlie to our practice!
