This sporting dog is an extremely active dog that was bred to carry heavy game over long distances. It needs a lot of exercise and challenging mental stimulation - or it will get itself into trouble! It does best when engaged with regular training and retrieving. The heavy coat needs regular grooming.
Goldens also need a lot of human companionship to thrive. They love to play and will watch "their human" carefully so that they don't miss any chances! They need to "touch" and be near to their "Person". We see a lot of these dogs in the obedience and agility rings! They have hearty appetites and are prone to overweight!
The Golden makes a very concerted effort to please! The males may weigh up to 75 pounds and the females around 65. They stand about 22 to 25 inches tall with long, wavy hair. The heavy coat needs frequent grooming to prevent mats.
