Rag Doll

Major Domo is a Rag Doll!

The breeding of cats can be characterized as having two paths – natural and selective. The "natural" breeds are typified by cats that have developed over generations into patterns of coat color, length and body type that encourage survival. Some examples of these are the Maine Coon, Persian and Angora. They will almost always breed true to type if two like specimens are allowed to breed; unlike those breeds that only appear with careful selective breeding for recessive traits. Some examples of these are the Scottish Fold, hairless Sphynx and the Rag doll.

The Rag doll is the result of a careful breeding program that emphasizes its gentle, placid disposition. This is a big, heavy cat with a medium long coat that doesn’t readily mat. It shows little enthusiasm for hunting, but is open to being trained simple tricks and the use of a scratching post. The Rag Doll is very popular in Australia because of its lack of enthusiasm for hunting and Australia’s problems with species extinctions.

The kittens are basically white, with "tipped" ears. They will develop their color over the first two years of their life as they grow to weigh between 10 and 20 pounds. The normal colors are Chocolate bi-color, Chocolate Point and Lilac Point.

We are pleased to welcome Major Domo to our practice!
